About
Thirty-four years of working with bodies has taught me that the most lasting relief doesn't come from one technique alone. It comes from listening—to what a client tells me, and more importantly, to what their nervous system is already saying through tension, breath, and the way they hold themselves on my table.
I'm Mark, and I've spent three decades learning how to read that language. My training at the Bellevue Institute of Massage Therapy in Seattle gave me a foundation in Swedish and deep tissue work, but it's the years since—studying Internal Family Systems at the institute in Chicago, learning Hakomi's mindfulness-based somatic approach, working through CranioSacral Therapy and myofascial release—that taught me how to meet clients where they actually are, not where I think they should be.
Swedish massage is now available at a new lower rate, making regular therapeutic care more accessible to people in Grand Rapids who need it most. But I'm also offering something different: Hakomi sessions. If you've ever felt stuck between talk therapy and bodywork, Hakomi might be the missing link. It's gentle. It uses present-moment awareness, breath, and subtle touch to explore the beliefs and patterns your nervous system holds. Rather than talking about your experience, you move into it. Clients often describe walking out feeling both physically relieved and emotionally clear in a way they didn't expect.
I work from my studio here in Grand Rapids, and I also travel throughout Michigan bringing fully equipped, professional massage services directly to your home or office. Every setting maintains the same standards of hygiene, safety, and care. I'm fully licensed, insured, and professionally compliant. My hours are 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. every day, and I work with a range of modalities—from sports massage and trigger point work for athletes, to Lomi Lomi and Thai massage for clients seeking something deeper, to reflexology and reiki for those exploring gentler approaches.

Testimonials
Mark has been instrumental in relieving tension and stress in my lower back and shoulders. He taught me techniques to keep pain from coming back. He's a great guy with skilled hands and a wonderful intuitive sense when delivering a massage. I'll definitely call him again.
My first session with Mark in Columbus showed me he knows his craft inside and out. He started by asking general questions about my background and any issues I was experiencing. The massage itself included varied pressure levels and multiple modalities. Since I deal with lower back pain, Mark knew exactly what to do, including very effective stretching. At the end, he went over things I could do between sessions to help with my lower back and shoulders. Mark is easy to talk to and clearly wants his clients to feel better not just during the session but for weeks afterward. I'll definitely look him up when I'm back in that area, and I hope he visits Columbus again.
Mark understands his craft deeply. Beyond the massage itself, the session felt like physical therapy. I left feeling refreshed, relaxed, and noticeably taller. I'm already looking forward to my next appointment. If you want a massage therapist who also brings physical therapy knowledge, I'd recommend Mark without hesitation.
Mark is an excellent massage therapist who applies several innovative techniques with real effectiveness. He clearly knows what he's doing and is a genuinely nice person to work with. I'd book with him again without any doubt.
Mark combines incredible techniques with extraordinary knowledge and a real gift for the art of massage and healing. His presence is warm and comforting, so even someone who's never had a massage before would feel at ease in his space and on his table.
Hemasseur's Take
Clients consistently praise Mark's depth of knowledge and his ability to combine multiple techniques—from stretching and deep tissue work to specialized modalities—to address specific problems like lower back pain and shoulder tension. His intuitive approach and warm presence make even first-time massage clients feel comfortable and understood. Beyond the immediate relief, clients report learning preventive techniques from Mark and experiencing longer-lasting improvements, suggesting his approach aims at lasting healing rather than temporary symptom management.
