About

Trained at East West College of Healing Arts right here in Portland, I completed my massage therapy license in 2023 with a focus on how the body holds tension and what it takes to release it. That education gave me the foundation, but what I've learned in these past two years working with clients in my Central Portland studio is something you can't get from any textbook.

I work with people carrying a lot. Athletes recovering from injury. Office workers whose necks and shoulders have forgotten what ease feels like. People managing chronic pain who just need someone to listen to what their body's telling them. I combine several techniques depending on what you need that day — deep tissue work, myofascial release, sports therapy, trigger point, Swedish massage, and assisted stretching to help you move better long-term.

My studio is a quiet, warm space in a great location with free parking, a heated table, and everything set up so you can actually relax. I check in with you during the session about pressure and what's working. I'm here from noon to 8 p.m., and I text to confirm appointments. I also offer cupping and can work with you on physical therapy goals if that's part of your recovery.

What matters most to me is that you feel safe and cared for. That means I work with all races, sexes, ages, and orientations — gay, bi, trans, straight. Your body deserves compassionate hands and a clean, welcoming place to heal.

Testimonials

James's studio is very comfortable and in a great location. He wove active stretching into the massage, which I really appreciated. I'd definitely recommend booking a 90-minute session.

FAQ

How much does a massage cost in Portland, Oregon?

My studio rates are $125 for 60 minutes, $165 for 90 minutes, and $250 for 120 minutes. These rates are below the Portland average, and I offer discounts if you prepay for a package of sessions.

What's the difference between deep tissue and Swedish massage?

Swedish massage uses longer, flowing strokes to relax your whole body and improve circulation, while deep tissue targets deeper muscle layers with firmer pressure to release chronic tension and knots. I use both techniques depending on what you need that day.

Does James offer same-day massage appointments in Portland?

I work from noon to 8 p.m. and keep flexible scheduling, so same-day appointments are often possible. Text me to check availability and book.

What massage is best for neck and shoulder pain?

Deep tissue, trigger point work, and myofascial release are all effective for neck and shoulder tension. I often combine these techniques and add assisted stretching to help you move better long-term.

Do you offer mobile massage in Portland?

Yes, I offer in-studio sessions at my Central Portland location and also provide mobile massage services. Text to discuss which option works best for your needs.

Is massage good for sports recovery?

Yes, sports massage and myofascial release help reduce soreness, speed recovery, and improve your range of motion after training or competition. I work with amateur and professional athletes in Portland.

What should I expect during my first massage appointment?

When you arrive, you'll find a clean, quiet, warm studio with a heated table. I'll check in with you about what you need, then I stay attentive throughout the session, asking if the pressure feels right and adjusting as needed.

Do you accept insurance or payment plans?

I accept cash, Venmo, and all major credit cards including American Express, Visa, and Mastercard. Ask about discounts on prepaid packages to make regular sessions more affordable.
